Duel Valve Springs ---- Single Valve Spring
The valve spring is one of the most important yet over looked parts of an engine, and is a key part of the valve train. The valve spring keeps the valves closed tightly against their seats until the cam opens the valve, which releases pressure. The cam will then continue through its motion releasing the valve and allowing the valve spring to do its job, and retract the valve back into the head.
There are many kinds of valve springs available, with two main types: Single, and Dual designs. The single is one spring that supports the valve on its own; the dual has a smaller spring inside the original. The other main difference between valve springs is the amount of pressure they apply to the cam and valve. Choosing a valve of the right spring pressure is important to ensure that the valve is retracted fast enough, and you don’t suffer from “valve float”, and also that you don’t go to stiff and induce high wear on the cam. Other parts associated with the valve are the keepers and retainers. Their job is to keep the valve spring attached securely to the valve.
